Gil McGowan

Gil McGowan has been active in the work of Parkland Institute in numerous capacities since its inception in 1996. He has been a member of the Parkland board of directors since his election as president of the Alberta Federation of Labour in 2005. He received degrees from both the University of Alberta in Edmonton (Bachelor of Arts in History) and Carleton University in Ottawa (Master of Journalism). Gil worked for the Alberta labour movement as a researcher, communications officer, and community organizer for a decade before being first elected as AFL president, and he has been an important contributor to the work of numerous organizations including Friends of Medicare, Public Interest Alberta, and Parkland Institute.
