Since 2020, Malaika has worked with Mock COP26, starting as a volunteer and now serving as a student staff member. She helped organize a two-week online international conference in November 2020 to fill the void of COP26 being postponed, as well as a campaign that followed the event. She has been interviewed by media around the world on her climate activism and was recently featured in the National Observer. Malaika credits Peterborough’s Youth Leadership in Sustainability program for giving her the tools that helped build her knowledge and self-confidence. She is passionate about climate action and climate education and is currently on a gap year to focus on her activism and attend COP26 in Glasgow Scotland before attending university.
